“You see I kind of have this problem,” she said with a little hesitation.\u00a0 I was thinking to myself, what problem could she possibly have?\u00a0 I was slightly nervous that she might have an extra hand or something.\u00a0 “You see I kind of have a smiling problem.\u00a0 I can’t stop smiling.”\u00a0 Relief washed over me as I explained that it was the best problem she could have in my mind.\u00a0 She could not stop smiling throughout the session.\u00a0 I loved seeing how happy in love these two are.<\/p>\n

Zach and Alexandria are very service minded people and met while serving together in Haiti.\u00a0 Zach is nothing short of amazing and he started a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the Haitian people after the earthquake hit in 2010.\u00a0 I’m going to let Zach take it from here!<\/p>\n

“Our non profit is called Sustain Haiti (www.sustain-haiti.org<\/span><\/a>)<\/span>. After the earthquake hit Haiti in 2010, a few students (including me) and a professor at BYU wanted to apply the things we had been learning about development to address the deeper problems that made the area so vulnerable to the quake instead of providing humanitarian relief for a short period. We work where the epicenter hit the hardest in a town called Leogane. We do a lot education and community based projects in villages and communities helping people learn basic business skills, agriculture, health, water and sanitation, and English.\u00a0 We have become an organization that is very focused on local ownership and volunteerism and we try to combine that with the best practices and proven methods. We’re really a volunteer-centered organization and we rely a lot on volunteer efforts and ideas from locals and international volunteers. Each summer I’ve been able to spend some time down there working on the ground rubbing shoulders with our awesome volunteers. This summer a particularly great volunteer came down. She caught my eye early on and fortunately, she was interested in dating when both were back in the States.\u00a0I’ve had some great experiences working with Sustain Haiti but meeting Alex definitely was the best.”<\/div>\n
